Cleary Square zoning moves forward, but the new rules are not adopted yet
Boston advanced Cleary Square planning and zoning changes in October, but the Zoning Commission must still act before the new zoning is adopted.

Boston's Planning Department has adopted a new small-area plan for Cleary Square and advanced related zoning changes intended to support additional housing, mixed-use buildings and neighborhood businesses.
The proposed zoning updates include changes to permitted building dimensions and density, with revisions reflecting community feedback. The plan also discusses public land, streets, arts and open spaces.
Why it matters
A neighborhood plan communicates what the city wants to encourage. Zoning determines what property owners may actually build. Cleary Square has taken an important planning step, but the zoning changes still require formal action by Boston's Zoning Commission. No particular number of new homes is guaranteed by this decision.
